MEMBERSHIP
The American Academy of Minimally Invasive Spinal Medicine and Surgery
(AAMISMS) is a nonprofit society recognized as a 501(C)3 entity by the IRS
and dedicated to fellowship and scholarship; its goal is to advance the
knowledge and understanding of the innovative techniques of minimally
invasive surgical and medical care of the spine. Active Members are board
certified in neurosurgery, orthopedics, interventional radiology,
rheumatology, neurology, pain management, physical medicine, or
anesthesiology. Chiropractors, physician assistants, operating room
technologists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other allied health care
professionals join as Associate Members. Academic endeavors include an
annual meeting which, in cooperation with the Royal College of Physicians
& Surgeons of the United States, offers a WORLD CONGRESS OF MINIMALLY
INVASIVE SPINAL SURGERY & MEDICINE. AAMISMS also provides preceptorships
in minimally invasive spinal surgery, scholarships for doctors from
developing countries to study minimally invasive spinal techniques in the
United States, and clinical research leading to publication in peer-review
medical journals. Annual dues are $200.00, which includes subscriptions to
our newsletter and journal and e-mailings.
AAMISMS EDUCATION, LLC
provides textbooks, the newsletter MINIMALLY INVASIVESPINAL
UPDATE, the Journal of Minimally Invasive
Spinal Technique, courses, hands-on workshops, and other
educational activities in support of the innovative field of minimally
invasive spinal medicine and surgery.
The American Council for Board Certification (ACFBC) is an independent
organization which oversees the various boards offered by the Royal
College of Physicians & Surgeons of the United States, the American Board
of Minimally Invasive Spinal Medicine, the American Board of Pain
Management Intervention, and the American Board of Minimally Invasive
Spinal Surgery. Its stated purposes are:

to approve and
represent societies, academies, colleges, and all organizations that
grant board certification to their members

to encourage
individual scholarship, training, and research by recognition of board
certification
-
to support member
organizations which provide the public with experts who have attained
board certification in various fields of endeavor
-
to insure that
the qualifications for board certification are: exemplary achievement,
peer review of credentials, and oral/written examination
-
to prevent race
creed, color, age, handicap, or gender from being considered in the
award of board certification
-
to promote
ethical and high professional standards in each member organization of
the ACFBC
-
to perform
on-site evaluation and review of the standards of board certification at
the headquarters of each member organization
-
to trademark and
register the name of member organization with the federal government
-
to aid political
action committees to protect and defend the rights of individuals who
have legitimately earned board certification
-
to further the
goals of the ACFBC by creating an effective means of communication
between the member organizations
